MARYLAND — A Maryland resident is likely a multi-millionaire after a store in Allegany County sold the jackpot-winning ticket worth $731.1 million for the January 20, 2021, Powerball drawing.

Maryland Lottery authorities said Coney Market in Lonaconing sold the largest game winner in the state’s history. The store will receive a $100,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the jackpot-winning ticket.

In addition, a ticket with the Power Play option worth $2 million was sold at AC&T in Hagerstown. The retailer will receive a $5,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the ticket.

The estimated annuity value of $731.1 million is the fourth-largest in Powerball history and the sixth-largest in U.S. lottery history. The estimated cash value of the single ticket is $546.8 million.

The winning numbers in the Wednesday, Jan. 20, drawing were white balls 40, 53, 60, 68, 69, plus Powerball 22, and Power Play multiplier 3X.

If you missed out on Wednesday’s ginormous jackpot, you can try your luck Friday night in the Mega Millions lottery game. That prize will be worth a hefty $970 million.

According to the Maryland Lottery the previous record amount won in the state was the $218.6 million share of a $656 million Mega Millions jackpot claimed anonymously by The Three Amigos in the March 30, 2012, drawing.

The jackpot winner may choose to take the $731.1 million paid in 30 payments over 29 years; or the $546.8 million lump sum payment. The annuity payments increase by 5 percent each year. All amounts are before taxes and are estimates based on ticket sales and interest rates. Federal tax is 24 percent. Maryland state tax is 8.95 percent.
