Mega Millions jackpot nears $1 billion ahead of Friday night’s drawing
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCSC) – The Mega Millions lottery jackpot continues to climb after no one picked the winning combination for Tuesday night’s drawing.
The jackpot stands at $970 million, the second largest total in its history, South Carolina Educational Lottery spokesperson Holli Armstrong said.
If any single player correctly picks all matching numbers for Friday’s drawing, they would be eligible for a $716 million payout.
More than 69,000 players in South Carolina won prizes ranging from $2 to $10,000 in Tuesday’s drawing.
The all-time record for a Mega Millions jackpot was $1.5 billion. The winner of that prize purchased their ticket in Simpsonville in October 2018.
Tickets for Friday’s 11 p.m. drawing must be puchased by 10 p.m.
The odds of winning are 1 in 303 million.
