Somebody is due to win the Powerball jackpot and Saturday night’s prize sits at $184 million. The cash payout will be roughly $111.2 million for the lucky winner. What time is the Powerball drawing? Numbers are drawn every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. Eastern time.

The winning Powerball numbers for Saturday, Feb. 10, are: 01, 13, 27, 41, 59 and the Powerball of 20.

The Powerball game is played by matching all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball number. The odds of picking the correct Powerball grand prize numbers are one in 292,201,338.

Powerball tickets cost $2 each, and are sold at over 4,800 Maryland Lottery retailers. Find out where you can buy your Powerball tickets here, via the Maryland Lottery.

In most states, ticket sales cut off at least an hour before the drawing, but a state may cut off sales earlier, such as Illinois, which ends sales three hours before the drawing. In Maryland and New Jersey, ticket sales end at 9:59 p.m.; in Virginia, they close at 10 p.m. Check with your state lottery for the sales cut-off time.

The record in the game was a $1.6 billion drawing in January 2016, which was shared by three winners in Florida, Tennessee and California; that was followed by the Aug. 23, 2017, win of $758 million, the second largest Powerball jackpot in the game’s history.

The largest three Powerball jackpots ever are:

  • $1.6 Billion — January 2016
  • $758 Million — August 2017
  • $590.5 Million — February 2013

The January 2016 record Powerball jackpot was worth nearly $1.6 billion. But Americans will still drop by the nearest convenience store with dreams of cash and buy a ticket. The billion dollar-plus prize won in the Jan. 13, 2016, drawing was the largest lotto jackpot awarded in U.S. history and was split by three winners. In the summer of 2016, a New Hampshire player won a $478 million prize; the June 10 win of $447 million was the eighth-largest jackpot in the game’s history.

Claiming, Safeguarding Winnings

So, what should you do if you win the big prize? Many lottery winners hire an attorney, financial planner or both, since most people don’t exactly know what to do when they suddenly come into so much money. Some even bring their lawyer with them to claim their prize. The lottery does not offer any counseling services or advice for winners.

You have two choices when you claim your prize: the full value paid in 30 installments over 29 years, or a one-time lump sum that is smaller than the actual total. Then there are the taxes. The federal tax on lottery winnings is 25 percent. Then, any extra income taxes like state or city would apply.

Financial experts say that if you can get more than a 3 or 4 percent return on an investment, the lump sum is actually the best way to go in the long-term.

The last player from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot was Cristy Davis of Waterford who won $70 million playing Powerball in February. With her winnings, Davis said she planned to buy a new house and car.

And while she was a lucky winner, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a winner worth $1 million sold in Hartland last year went unclaimed. The ticket was purchased at the Speedway in Hartland, but the winner never came forward to claim the prize. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund.

If you’d like to be the next player from Michigan to win a huge lottery prize, take a look at these tips from lottery expert Richard Lustig. The author of “Learn How To Increase Your Chances Of Winning The Lottery” has won more than $1 million in Florida by winning top jackpot prizes in smaller games.
